Oh Chromeo, Chromeo.

Lucky me, I got a Google Chromebook for Christmas! This is one example of how overly generous my parents always are every Christmas, and how I feel that my gifts, always a bit chincey and cliche, just don't match up.

When I received my Chromebook, I was nervous at first. Mom said I could return it within the next month if I wanted, and that it was okay if I didn't like it. She told me that it doesn't save stuff on the hard drive; that anything you save goes to this mystical creature called "The Cloud." I think for the next book of the Tree in the Sky, I'll have to create a religion where people worship The Cloud. But I digress.

Anywho, my concern was that it did this, making all of my work and music up on the internet. This would have meant that one: I couldn't access my work when I didn't have internet. And two: anyone else COULD.

Oh how wrong I was.

I didn't like it at first. I opened it up and tried to do some writing from my flashdrive, but the file would only open read only. I got very annoyed by this and informed Mom. She asked if I'd put it on Google Docs. I said "huh, didn't think of that," tried her suggestion and voila! I was working on the book within a few minutes. And with Google Music I can listen to all of my iTunes music from my desktop! That I need an internet connection for...

...But not for Google Docs! Or, more interestingly, Gmail. I'm able to check my email without internet? What is this magic? I could also do Google Docs in full functionality even if offline. Neato. So now, as I revise Book One and get it ready to send to Tor Books, I'm working on the outline for Book Two of the series.

I am a definite fan of this device.
