This is not so much further statements on the City as it is a correction to earlier statements. Julie informed me that I rather erroneously referred to Astoria as being in Queens. While it is true that Astoria is in Queens county, people who live there refer to it as its own separate entity.
Apparently, when people say they live in Queens, what most folks hear is either Long Island or Forest Hills. From either of those places, it can take upwards of an hour or more to get into the City proper. However Julie, who has worked on Mad Ave and other such places in the main parts of Manhattan, takes only 15 to 20 minutes to get to work from Astoria each morning.
That's hardly what I call a long commute! Forgive my unfortunate and naïve oversight!
