Song of the Day: Cave In by Owl City
Second Song of the Day: The Bird and the Worm by Owl City
Third Song of the Day: Hot Air Balloon also by Owl City. Honestly, a lot of Owl City today; it's that kind of a day!
Today is the last full day of our family Mainecation (we're leaving tomorrow morning), and what a week it has been. It's no big secret that I hate heat, and the only thing I find worse is humidity. Unfortunately, most of the week was sticky, muggy, unseasonably hot and uncomfortable, especially for Maine. One of the reasons why I enjoy this area for vacationing is that it is significantly drier and cooler than Albany is. Having it be as it was for most of the week made me irritable and snappy, even as I was making it my point to relish being on vacation.
To clarify, this has been a great week, and a much needed getaway from the pressures and stresses of ordinary life. A lot of writing has been done - I'm well past page 100 of my Marcus notebook now - and I even had the chance to blog quite fruitfully. Plus, making a Pinterest account for added enjoyment and spamming Instagram with beautiful pictures. Yes, it's been a great week. However, though it has been sunny, it has been hot and humid enough that I became quite snarly. Not to mention that it has been so hazy that I could not even see to the other side of a not-so-vast bay.
This morning, that is all different. I came out of my room after the first night where I wasn't sweating profusely, stepped over to the kitchen for my morning coffee, and lo and behold when I looked out the kitchen window I could see! For miles out, I could see water and mountains! The sky was clearer than it has been since Sunday. Dad came in from his perch on the back deck and he was smiling as I hadn't seen him smile all week. He told me that the weather was perfect and I felt the need to test that.
Much to my pleasant surprise, it's cool and dry today. It feels like true late-August Maine, and my mood lifted with the first whiff of Autumnal air. It is such a relief to feel this cool that I have missed so much on this trip. I can't even bring myself to get into a rant about climate change, which is where I was tempted to go as recently as last night. Nope, today I am going to relish this blessed shift in air, and I praise God that He gave us at least one day of perfect weather. I praise God for today, as I ought to (and usually do) every day.
It's too bad that this comes at the very end of the week, but I'm so happy that we have this day, rather than having it come either after we left, or on a day where we couldn't enjoy it because we were headed home.
Now, I'm going to get off my computer for the remainder of the day, go to Pemaquid Point or Owl's Head or some other delightful location, and enjoy my butt off. I even get to wear one of my nice button-down shirts!
