Dreaming 2

Song of the Day: Careful by Guster

It's been a long time since I've had a dream that I can remember. I finally just woke up from one, but I have to write it now. It's fading fast!

I'm at my cousin Ben's house (which I've never actually been to in real life). It's in the style of a split level, or a town house or something like that. It also seems to be in the town of Camden, Maine, where my family and I are staying on vacation.

I have been watching over the house and Ben's dog while he's been away at some sort of conference. The dog is a small one that looks kind of like Sparky - the little black terrier that his family had years back - except that it's fur is light and blond rather than black. I guess while I was watching over the house a couple of friends of mine had been coming over, and they were partiers (or maybe they were supposed to be thugs; they were wearing stereotypical thug-like clothing) who trashed the house. Papers were all of the place. Furniture was upturned and torn. Food was littered on the floor. Poor doggy had gone to the bathroom in places because these "friends" had forcibly prevented him from going outside.

Naturally, Ben is on his way home and he's going to be back any minute. I'm panicking and trying to cleanup the house, but of course my friends are following in my wake. They're undoing any cleaning I perform and then adding to the already-awful mess. Finally, in a rage, I kick my friends out so that I can clean on my own.

Things are finally coming together when I turn and see that, in the back room, Sparky look-alike is gone. He fled out the back door. And, of course, in that moment, Ben comes home.

He flips his lid at me. I mean, in real life I don't think I've ever seen Ben this angry, but it's scary so I'm going to try not to mess things up as dream me did. At first Ben is only furious about the state of the house, with only one room cleaned up. Then he finds out that Sparky Jr is gone and is beyond apoplectic. As he storms out of the house he says that Lynn would never have been so irresponsible about the house, and that he never wants to see me again.

The remainder of the dream includes me following him to the house next door where his wife, Lynnsay, lives (for some reason they don't live in the same house?). He goes in, she having just gotten home, and I hear him ranting at her about me. I continue pleading with him, saying I will do anything to make it up to him. And saying that I will find Sparky at any cost.

The dream ends as Ben comes out and tells me he expects Sparky look alike back TONIGHT.
